How to Enable Dark Mode in Snapchat in 2022 (iOS & Android)

Eye strain is typical when people use their phones late at night, but intense blue light from displays can make it difficult to sleep, induce headaches, and more. To get around this, many apps, websites, and smart gadgets provide dark mode as an option.

What exactly is Dark Mode?

Dark Mode (also known as night mode) is a setting that changes the app’s colour palette to a darker landscape. Dark mode is also known as bedtime mode, which is the display setting to use if you want to remain up late with the lights turned off. Dark Mode is available on Facebook and many other apps, including Snapchat.

Unfortunately, not all apps include a night mode–even the most popular ones have yet to implement this useful function.

Here’s how to enable dark mode on Snapchat, regardless of what other applications can do.

How to Enbale Snapchat’s Dark Mode on Android?

Snapchat, the popular image messaging and chatting software, is known for releasing new features on a regular basis. The addition of these additional features continues to amuse and engage users. Dark Mode for Snapchat iOS was thankfully introduced on May of 2021. Here’s how to put it to use.

  1. Click your “Bitmoji” in the top left corner to go to your Snapchat profile.
  2. In the top right, click the “Gear (Settings) Icon.”
  3. Choose “App Appearance” from the drop-down menu.
  4. Opt for “Always Dark.”

How to Enable Snapchat’s Dark Mode on Android?

Unfortunately, Snapchat keeps promising Dark Mode for Android, but everything else seems to be updated (as of April 2022).

However, depending on their location, certain users may have Dark Mode (beta mode) available. It will have to wait and see. Maybe Snapchat has identified a problem that they can’t seem to solve? It’s impossible to say. Don’t worry, though.

Although Snapchat for Android does not support Dark Mode natively, there is a workaround.

Turning on “Android developer mode” and using “Settings” to force Dark Mode on Snapchat and all other applications is the procedure. By forcing Dark Mode in the OS, any app, including Snapchat, may lose some visible features.

Note that enabling Dark Mode in the OS does not appear to work for Snapchat on Android 10 and newer. Maybe the Snapchat Dark Mode progress on Android used Android 9 and earlier? The answer is still a mystery.

Anyway, here’s how to give it a shot and see if it works.

  1. Swipe down to the top right and tap the “Gear” (Settings) icon.
  2. Select “Display.”
  3. Turn on “Dark theme.” It may be branded “Dark Mode” on some phones.
  4. Return to “Settings” and select “System.”
  5. Select “Developer options” from the “Advanced” dropdown menu.
  6. Scroll all the way down to “HARDWARE ACCELERATED RENDERING,” then press “Override force-dark” to enable the feature.

The “Developer options” option “Override force-dark” replaces the former “Force Dark Mode” option in the “Display” options menu, but it is quite similar. The “forcing” in “Override force-dark” forces dark mode to always be on, so apps use the system’s dark mode setting rather than the app’s. This happens because the old “Force Dark Mode” choice in the “display” settings has been renamed “Dark theme,” which may not work with some apps and never turns off. Snapchat, on the other hand, does not go dark for some reason.

There are a couple of Android alternatives that are a little out of date but nonetheless impose Dark Mode when using Snapchat. One is the Substratum app, which is simple to set up and utilise. Substratum, on the other hand, requires that your Android device be rooted.

While “Blue Light Filter” does not provide Dark Mode to Snapchat, it does allow you to adjust the harsh lights that are emitted from your phone’s screen. The Blue Light Filter software does not involve rooting your Android phone and instead functions as a screen protector. Blue Light Filter is a non-intrusive solution for reducing the bright lighting of Snapchat.

FAQs on Snapchat’s Dark Mode

Does Dark Mode help you get more battery life?

Most users will notice that their device’s battery lasts a little longer after switching to a darker theme. Using a brighter theme uses more battery than a darker theme, therefore it’s one approach to get greater battery life.

Will Snapchat ever have a Dark Mode for Android users?

Currently, the only answer to this question is that we hope so. Unfortunately, Snapchat has yet to confirm the darker tone for Android users, even this early in 2022.

Of course, if you’re an Android user, you can ask the devs for Dark Mode (provide feedback). To do so, go to Snapchat Settings and select “I Have a Suggestion.” Complete the form and click “Submit.” The more users who request the feature, the more likely it will be prioritised by Snapchat.
